The final four have been confirmed in the Betfred Championship Preliminary Finals, following the results of the two Sudden Death Play-Off matches that took place this weekend.
Doncaster booked their place with another commanding victory over Barrow Raiders at the Club Doncaster Sports Village on Sunday, setting up a Preliminary Final tie with Newcastle Thunder.
Tries from Jacob Jones, Connor Robinson, Tom Whitehead and two from Edene Gebbie in the first half gave Richard Horne’s side a 30-0 lead, before two from James Glover and Muizz Mustapha and one from Suaia Matagi sealed the win in the second.
Over in Widnes, Owen Farnworth’s Golden Point try secured Oldham a dramatic 16-20 win over the Vikings and a place in the Preliminary Finals.
The Roughyeds led 14-0 before Widnes fought back to take a 16-14 lead in what was an entertaining encounter at the DCBL Stadium.
Mike Butt, Nathan Connell and Ryan Ince were scorers for the hosts, while Jake Bibby and Ben Davies dotted down for the visitors.
Oldham’s Morgan Smith then levelled the scores from a late penalty, sending the game into extra time.
And here came the decisive moment. Widnes failed to deal with Josh Drinkwater’s kick-off, allowing the ball to bounce twice before falling into the hands of Tom Nisbet. He gathered it cleanly and passed to Brad Day, who quickly found Adam Milner.
Milner then produced the crucial pass to former Viking Farnworth, to send him over to score the match-winning try, sparking wild celebrations among the away crowd.
Oldham will now make the trip to the capital to face London Broncos next weekend, where victory would secure them a place in the Betfred Championship Grand Final.
